Annual Crawfish Boil

The Entomology Club’s annual crawfish boil will be held on Saturday April 21st at the 4-H Building on Ben Hur Rd.  The event will be held from 1- 5pm.  All entomology club members, students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend.  Your Entomology club dues cover the crawfish boil.  If you have not paid your club dues ($10) this year please see Jason Hamm or any of the other officers.  All guests will be required to pay $5 to attend the boil.  We encourage you to bring your favorite dessert, snack, etc. We hope to see all of you at the boil this year.  We will be placing a sign up sheet in the mail room and we ask everyone to sign up by April 18th so we can make sure to have plenty of crawfish.

 Awards:
The L.D. Newsom Award in honor of Boyd Professor L.D. Newsom is annually presented to the outstanding M.S. and Ph.D. student in the Department of Entomology. The award is based on academic performance, research activity, and overall contributions to the department, University, and professional societies. The award provides $1000 cash.

Congratulations to Mr. Xiaoyi Wu who received the First Place Award for the Ph.D. Student Competition for Poster Presentation at the Annual Meeting of the Louisiana Agricultural Sciences Association. His poster compared the performance of seven commercial Bt corn hybrids against a Cry1Ab-resistant strain of sugarcane borer.

Mr. Julien Beuzelin (Ph.D. student with Dr. Gene Reagan) received the First Place Award for the PhD Student Competition for Oral Presentations at the Annual Meeting of the Louisiana Agricultural Sciences Association.  His talk addressed the impact of the Hurricane Rita storm surge on abundances of sugarcane borer and its predators.
